A Quick Summary of Our Position

Doctrine:  We are Independent Baptist in our doctrine and practice.

Being "Independent" means we are not under the authority of any

denominational headquarters or a religiously controlling group.

Identifying as "Baptist" means that we believe firmly in the doctrines listed

below in our "Statement of Faith".

Stand:  We are Fundamentalist in our stand and defense of Bible truth.

We do not cooperate with, nor support, religiously liberal groups.

Music:  We support traditional, conservative, Christ-honoring music sung from an

              actual hymn book.

We stand opposed to the modern entertainment pop-styles that label themselves "Christian".

Bible Translation:  We confidently use the King James Version in all Church Ministries.

Statement of Faith

We believe that the Holy Bible, as originally written, was verbally inspired and the product of Spirit-controlled men, and therefore has truth without mixture of error. We believe that it is the only infallible rule for all human conduct, creeds, and opinions. II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:19-21; Hebrews 1:1.

We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the Old and New Testaments; that God gave the words of Scripture by inspiration without error in the original autographs.  God promised that He would preserve His Word (Matt. 24:35).  God has kept that promise by preserving His Word without error in the traditional Masoretic Hebrew Text, and the Textus Receptus Greek Texts.  We also believe that the Authorized King James Version is the best translation of these texts in the English language and is the only version to be used in the preaching and teaching ministries of the Mt. Zion Community Church, Inc.

We believe that there is only one living and true God, infinite in every excellence; that there is a unity of the Godhead, and there are three personal distinctions—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—one in substance and equal in every divine perfection. Exodus 20:2-3; I Corinthians 8:6; I John 5:7; Revelation 22:13; Ephesians 2:18; II Corinthians 13:14; Isaiah 6:1-9, 45:18.

We believe in the absolute Deity of the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, that He was divine as no other man can be, being the manifestation of God, existing from all eternity, co-equal with the Father and Spirit: that He never ceased to be God for one instant and that His humiliation did not consist in laying aside His deity; that as a man, He was miraculously begotten of the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary. John 1:1-2; I John 5:20; Matthew 1:20; Luke 1:26-38; Isaiah 7:14; Romans 10:13.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person, equal with the Father and Son and the same substance and nature; that He convicts of sin, righteousness and judgment, bears witness to the truth, is the Agent of the New Birth and that He seals, endues, guides, teaches, witnesses to, sanctifies and helps the believer, indwelling every true child of God. Ephesians 4:30; I Corinthians 6:19-29; Ephesians 1:13-14; II Corinthians 13:14; John 14:16-17; Romans 8:14-27.

We believe in the distinct personality of Satan, that he is the unholy god of this age, accuser of the brethren, author of all the powers of darkness and sin, and is destined to the judgment of an eternal justice in the lake of fire. Matthew 4:11; Luke 4:13, 10:18; II Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 2:2; I John 3:8.

We believe that God created the heavens and the earth, including all life, “each after its own kind,” by direct act and not by the process of evolution. Genesis 1:2, 9:6; Nehemiah 9:6; Job 26:27; Psalms 19:1; Proverbs 22:2; Acts 17:24, 14:5; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16-17; Hebrews 11:3; John 1:3.

We believe that man in the person of the first Adam was created in innocence, but by voluntary transgression fell into sin thus plunging the whole race into condemnation and death, so that now all mankind is born in sin and become willful, practical sinners by choice, and are so without excuse before God. Genesis 3; Psalms 14:1, 58:3; Ecclesiastes 7:20; Isaiah 43:27; Romans 3:9-23, 5:10-19.

We believe that the only escape from the condemnation of sin is through the atonement wrought by Jesus Christ, when He voluntarily took upon Him a human body and nature, yet without sin, and by His suffering, death and resurrection, made full satisfaction to the justice of God for the sin of man; that the blessings of this salvation are given on the grounds of grace to all who believe and confess and that it is the immediate duty of all to accept these offers of mercy. John 3:1-7, 16; 14:6, 1:1-3, 29; 10:11-18, Acts 16:30-33; I Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 5:21; II Corinthians 5:18-19; Galatians 4:4-5; Ephesians 1:7; Philippians 1:7; Colossians 1:4, 1:19-22; Hebrews 10:4-14.

We believe that faith in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ is the only condition for salvation from sin and this salvation is wholly by grace; (not works, however good) made secure. Matthew 1:21, 16:25; Acts 16:31; Romans 10:9-13; I Corinthians 3:11; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-7; Galatians 2:16, 3:11.

We believe that all who take Christ as their Savior are born from above and are eternally secure in Christ. John 10:28; Romans 8:35-39; I Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 4:30, 1:13-14; Philippians 1:8.

We believe that the true Church Body is composed of born again believers, unknown to the Old Testament prophets; established by Jesus Christ, who is its sole Head; revealed through the holy apostles; empowered and perpetuated by the Holy Spirit; composed of believers in Jesus Christ as Savior, both Jew and Gentile, called out from the world and indwelt by the Holy Spirit. It began with the New Testament saints and will be consummated at the coming of Christ in the Rapture. Matthew 16:18; Acts 1:8, 2:13, 2:41-47, 15:14; Romans 16:26; I Corinthians 12:12-28; Ephesians 1:22-23, 3:21.

We believe that there are two church ordinances: water baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper or communion. Both are to be in use and practiced by born again believers.

Water Baptism - Since our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and others were immersed in water, then water baptism by immersion for believers should be practiced to follow the Lord in His baptism. There exists no example in the Bible as to sprinkling or baptizing babies or an unsaved person. Acts 8:36-39; Mark 1:9-10; Romans 6:3-5.

Lord’s Supper - We believe that the Lord’s Supper or Communion should be administered to any believer and must consist of elements of unleavened bread and unfermented wine (or known as grape juice). This service also is to be preceded by serious self-examination. Mark 14:12-25; I Corinthians 11:23-32.

We believe in the bodily, personal, pre-millennial return of Jesus Christ, that He will come before the seven year tribulation period to catch away His church, coming only in the air, and that He will come with His church at the close of the tribulation to judge the living nations and to set up His kingdom on earth. I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 19:11-21.

We believe that there is a radical and essential difference between the righteous and the wicked; that only through faith are people justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and sanctified by the Spirit of God; are truly righteous in God’s esteem; while all such who continue in unrepentance and unbelief are in His sight wicked, and under the curse; and that this distinction holds among men both in life and after death, in the everlasting conscious suffering of the lost. Malachi 3:18; Romans 6:17-23; Matthew 24:34-41; Luke 6:25; John 8:21, 3:36, 1:2, 5:24.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, His ascension into Heaven, and His presence there for us as our High Priest and Advocate. I Peter 1:3-5; I John 1:1-2; Hebrews 9:24-26; 8:1; I Corinthians 15:6-14.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved and the everlasting punishment of the unsaved. Job 10:20-22; John 5:21, 28-29; John 11:23; Revelation 20:12-15; II Corinthians 5:6-8, 10; ; Philippians 3:10-13.

We believe that every Christian should be separated from the world unto God, that believers are in the world but not of it; that the Christian is not to love the world or to be conformed thereto; that he is a pilgrim and a stranger here and should walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 12:1-2; I John 3:15-17; Colossians 3:1-10.

We believe that this church and its members should neither aid nor abet apostasy and modernism nor fellowship with the National Council or the World Council of Churches. II Corinthians 6:14-7:1.

We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowment of all His gifts, and that the gifts of evangelists, pastors and teachers are sufficient for the perfecting of the saints today; and that speaking in tongues and the working of sign miracles gradually ceased as the New Testament Scriptures were completed and their authority became established. Because of the Word of God we reject the Charismatic Movement. I Corinthians 12:4-11, 14:1-40; II Corinthians 12:12; Ephesians 4:7-12.

We of the Mt. Zion Community Church, Inc. believe that marriage and the home was the first institution ordained by God (Genesis 2:24), and that God has declared physical relations between husband and wife to be undefiled before Him (Hebrews 13:4).

We believe God declares that marriage is to be limited to relationships between one male by birth and one female by birth (Ephesians 5:31).  We believe the Bible declares homosexuality to be a sin, and to be forbidden by God (Leviticus 18:22-30; 20:13; Romans 1:26-27).

We believe sexual relations must be restricted to married couples only, and any sexual relation outside the bounds of marriage are forbidden by God (Romans 6:12-13, Galatians 5:17-19; Ephesians 5:3).   We believe that a married man is to restrict his sexual relations to his wife only, and the wife is to restrict her sexual relations to her husband only (I Corinthians 7:2-5).
